Crossover can be configured as stereo 2 or 3-way, or mono 4 or 5-way. It
features XLR connectors with active balanced inputs and outputs. It
also employs 4th-order Linkwitz-Riley filter alignments to minimize
phase difficulties in the critical crossover region. Simply put, a
Linkwitz-Riley alignment is two cascaded 2nd-order Butterworth filters
exhibiting identical phase characteristics on their Low-pass and
High-pass outputs. This characteristic guarantees in-phase outputs at
all frequencies. In-phase outputs are mandatory for proper acoustic
summing of common signals from adjacent drivers in the crossover region.
An added benefit of this topology is steep 24 dB per octave rolloff
slopes. A slope of this magnitude guarantees drivers designed to produce
a specific range of frequencies, and no more, will not be driven past
their limits, thereby minimizing distortion and driver fatigue.

To
further guarantee the transparent operation, adjustable time delay
circuits appear on the low and mid outputs of each channel to compensate
for any physical misalignment of the drivers. Time correction ensures
the mechanical phase alignment of adjacent drivers will be acoustically
correct, thus maintaining the integrity of the electrical phase
alignment of the crossover's filters. CD horn equalization is possible
with an internal modification. Time delay can also be internally
transplanted to the mid and high outputs if desired.

Simply put, a Linkwitz-Riley alignment is two cascaded 2nd-order Butterworth filters exhibiting identical phase characteristics on their Low-pass and High-pass outputs. This characteristic guarantees in-phase outputs at all frequencies. In-phase outputs are mandatory for proper acoustic summing of common signals from adjacent drivers in the crossover region. An added benefit of this topology is steep 24 dB per octave rolloff slopes. A slope of this magnitude guarantees drivers designed to produce a specific range of frequencies, and no more, will not be driven past their limits, thereby minimizing distortion and driver fatigue.

To further guarantee the transparent operation, adjustable time Delay circuits appear on the Low and Mid Outputs of each channel to compensate for any physical misalignment of the drivers. Time correction ensures the mechanical phase alignment of adjacent drivers will be acoustically correct, thus maintaining the integrity of the electrical phase alignment of the crossover's filters. CD horn equalization is possible with an internal modification. The AC 23B uses XLR connectors with active balanced Inputs and Outputs.

Features:

Stereo 2- or 3-Way, Mono 4- or 5-Way

Linkwitz-Riley Alignment with 24 dB per Octave Slopes

Adjustable Delays

Infrasonic, Ultrasonic and RFI Filters

Low & Mid Output Muting (3-Way)

Input & Output Level Controls

Fully Active Balanced XLR Inputs & Outputs

UL/CSA/Ce and 100/120/230 VAC Remote Power Supplies

The AC 24 is ideal for those who want the features and accuracy of DSP, but prefer not to use a PC for control. One knob = one function -- no confusion. This approach allows a full-featured, high performance product that doesn't break the bank. The AC 24 is a truly affordable crossover that features the very best technology, with exactly the right features.

The AC 24 combines Rane's exclusive phase compensated, 4-way Linkwitz-Riley-Plus crossover filters with independent time delay and limiting for each output. Once settings are made, an included security cover guards all controls. With these tools, it is possible to realize a well-protected sound system that exhibits unsurpassed clarity and accuracy.

Why Linkwitz-Riley-Plus?

Absolutely flat amplitude response through out the passband.

Steep 24 dB per octave roll-off rate after the crossover point.

All outputs are everywhere in phase.

Excellent transient response.

See the RaneNote Linkwitz-Riley Crossovers for background information.

Special AC 24 Features

Exclusive Automatic Phase Compensation

Independent Alignment Delays

Independent Limiters

CD Horn EQ on Hi-Mid and High Outputs

Stereo Link Switch

Summed Output Expands Uses

Security Cover Included

Internal Universal Power Supply

Applications

4-Way or 3-Way Operation

Independent, Dual-Mono Crossover

Linked Control, Stereo Crossover

Split-Band Limiter

4-band, 4th-Order, 24 dB per Octave Tone Controls
