Description

The Rane DA 216s Distribution Amplifier is a two-input, sixteen-output splitter/distribution amplifier. The DA 216s is capable of providing sixteen discrete balanced outputs from one or two balanced mic-level or line-level inputs. The level of each output is individually adjusted via one of the sixteen screwdriver Output Level controls on the front panel. Each output may be assigned to either or both inputs via front panel accessible slide switches.

The Master A and B Level controls affect the overall level of each input. In other words, they allow all assigned outputs to be turned up or down at once. LEDs indicate an Overload (OL) at either the inputs or at the internal gain stages.

Each input is set to either Mic or Line level via the rear panel Input Pad pushbutton. The Input Gain pushbutton switches provide a microphone input with +60 or +40 dB of gain, or a line input with +20 or 0 dB of gain. With Input Gain, Master Levels and Output Levels, any reasonable input signal may be adjusted to a nominal +4 dBu and still have 17 dB of headroom. The Phantom Power switch provides +15 VDC for condenser microphones. Any input assigned to line-level has this phantom voltage turned off automatically. A rear-panel LED indicates when the Phantom Power is engaged.

Each output stage incorporates a high-current balanced output line driver for driving long lines with optimal performance. The DA 216s improves upon the DA 216a model with Euroblock connectors, and an internal universal power supply that can operate almost anywhere in the world (100-240 VAC).

For even greater flexibility in source selection and zone distribution, combine the DA 26 with a Rane CP 52 or CP 64 music and paging preamplifier. Many existing solutions require installers to employ separate paging preamplifier, dynamics processor, crossover, distribution amplifier and remote-level-control devices. These systems are expensive and require a lot of wiring, yet fail to meet all of the requirements. The DA 26 provides all of the required features in one compact package.

The DA 26 routes a mono program source and priority/page source to as many as six zones. The mono program source is processed by an automatic-gain-control circuit featuring adjustable target level, ratio and attack/decay.

The priority/page input features automatic signal detection and remote zone assignment. A means of automatically attenuating program music over a range of 0 dB to -80 dB during a page allows mic/line mixing, talk-over or priority-replaces-program operation.

Each of the six outputs distributes full-range, high-pass or low-pass program music. Small bookshelf or hanging speakers frequently require bass enhancement. Bass enhancement is achieved by adding bass to the full range response or by employing a true bi-amp system. The DA 26 provides a 24 dB per octave Linkwitz-Riley crossover that supports both bass enhancement schemes.
